Founded in 1994, FARM’s mission is to protect the County’s award winning Agricultural Reserve. We partner with other groups to watchdog development proposals,and organize grassroots on issues impacting the Ag Reserve. In 1998, FARM successfully attained a “Sole Source Aquifer Designation” from the Federal EPA, to better protect out region’s groundwater.
growingSOUL (Sustainable Opportunities for Universal Learning) is dedicated to educating the public about the vital role of human interdependence and reciprocity in developing and promoting a sustainable food system that benefits the health of individuals, communities, and our planet. At growingSOUL, we demonstrate and teach the strategies necessary to create a zero-waste food cycle including local food production, preparation, preservation, storage and composting, all fueled by renewable energies.
With a history stretching from Colonial times, Montgomery County has a long heritage evidenced by rich cultural and historical resources. As the area’s population has exploded in recent decades, there has been a growing awareness of the importance of heritage programs and a higher profile for the history and heritage resources of the county. The Heritage Tourism Alliance of Montgomery County (Heritage Montgomery) is an initiative created by county leaders and state officials to raise the profile of the area’s heritage, ensuring that residents and visitors alike understand and value the county’s full history. We want to encourage visitors to become local tourists, entice visitors to explore the county, stay longer & return more often.

As one of the oldest and most successful land trusts in the country, MET holds over 1,000 conservation easements preserving over 125,000 acres statewide. From the Chesapeake Bay to the mountains of Garrett County, our Land Conservation, Monitoring and Stewardship, and Land Trust Assistance Programs promote the protection of open land. MET also provides grants to environmental education projects through the Keep Maryland Beautiful Program.
